54: I’M DONE

Snapshot_20140429

Here is a beautiful print that I bought from my friend last week. She is a wonderful artist. It also shows how much I care about school in generally right now. I have 3 more exams next week. It’s 10 pm on a Tuesday. I have work at 11 am tomorrow. I have a massive headache and just scheduled crying into my day tomorrow.

To be real though, I learned a lot from this class. For one, I learned that it is important to indulge yourself in moderation. It’s important to make yourself feel good and life is too short for 7-11 ice cream. This print that I’m holding in my picture was only $6 and it was worth every penny.

I also learned that it is important to carry a notebook and write down the crazy ideas that you have. I’ve started keeping a notebook with me when I get coffee or a meal by myself so I can think and write down important things and stupid little things that come to me. I have found that that is when I am most creative.

10pm on a Tuesday is not when I am creative.

In my post number 12, I proposed a pizza party for grown ups. In my post number 4, I rambled about a time that I ate HD and cried with a friend.

The other night, I combined a lot of these ideas into one without really realizing it at the time. It was my friend’s 21st birthday. The night before, she had gone out with some of her more ‘club happy’ friends, so I proposed that we go out to a local restaurant for a couple drinks and some pizza. Pretty simple, I thought!

It started off as a normal night, nothing crazy. We shared a pizza, ordered a couple dirty shirleys, talked to the bartender and the other bar patrons for a while. Then we got into heavier talk about our love lives.  I won’t get into the details to spare myself and herself the embarrassment.

We went by the 7-11 for some more beer and ice cream to take home. The ice cream was an indulgence. The beer was a necessity.

This post isn’t so much an improvement on those other posts, but a realization that grown up pizza parties and the indulgence of ice cream are still very important things in my life.

In this post, I had the idea that you ice cream should work for you by helping you go to sleep at night. Towards the end of the post, I mention that an ice cream for the morning would be a cool idea too.

Let’s expand on that idea! We all see the food carts and coffee carts as we walk around campus and the city. Many of these carts sell a few different kinds of coffee, one even selling popsicles on very hot days. None of them though, sell coffee flavored ice cream in the morning. And the definitely don’t sell coffee flavored ice cream with a caffeine jolt inside!

I think that there should be a cart with ice cream cones and little cups with caffeinated ice cream for those on their way to work in the morning. It would be a delicious treat for those who are not looking to wander into the Starbucks for a sweet treat (or wait in that Starbucks line). I know that I would be looking for a treat on a hot summer morning that would also perk me up and get me ready for a long day!

In my post number 16, I proposed that there should be inspirational messages on the bottom of HD containers, so people could have something else to look forward to when they finish their ice cream.

I don’t think that a toy in the bottom of a container of HD would be appropriate to the brand, but I think that a small piece of art would be appropriate to the brand. Think about it, eating a luxury ice cream after a hard day and getting the bottom and finding a 2 inch tall plastic Statue of David.

I feel as though this would as another level of excitement to eating the ice cream, even for adults. It would also lead people to collect the little statues, which would make them feel much more luxurious to have a tiny art gallery on their shelf that would grow with every container that they ate!

Sweet Jesus, finally at number 50!

In post 13, I proposed putting artwork on the side of HD containers so people could have the luxury of seeing beautiful works of art while they eat a delicious pint of ice cream. While I still like this idea, I also proposed being able to walk around a museum with ice cream, looking at art while you enjoyed a luxury treat! This probably won’t happen though because sticky food and fingers and priceless art do not mix together well.

I still want to eat ice cream in art museums though. I want that day to happen, when I can go to a museum, see wonderful art and then eat a luxury ice cream.

I think that, for the safety of the art, the only way my dream could come true would be for there to be a ice cream counter within the museum. The counter would have flavors related to the art that the people had seen or would be about to see.

A Rocky road flavor  would be named The Jackson Pollock

Vanilla would be Marble

Chocolate would be Terra Cotta, which many pots are made of

Strawberry would be Still Life, to comment on the may paintings of bowls of fruit

I think that there should also be fancier flavors, like a Greek frozen yogurt with honey to go with the ancient Greek art.

A creme brulee to go with the French art.

Modern art would have a line of sorbets, to be fresh and new and tart like modern art is.

For my post 36, I played with my makeup. It was a pallet of fun eyeshadow colors that I got on sale for $3 after Christmas. It’s probably the most fun thing on my dresser, minus the glitter I use for Rocky Horror. For many people, makeup is an indulgence. I know people that spend big money on new eyeshadow pallets. I know a guy that got his girlfriend a $40 eyeshadow pallet for Valentine’s Day and she was so excited! She uses it all the time now.

I think HD should work with a makeup company to make a luxury makeup that is available to the general public. A step above the dollar store makeup and the normal, Maybelline, Revlon, etc. brands that are the staples to anyone’s makeup routine. Something to make them feel like they are really indulging themselves in a new and exciting makeup, something that is above their usual, but still in the average person’s price range.

To keep the makeup in the ice cream area, and keep HD as an important part of the process, I think that the colors should be named after ice cream flavors.

A light pink named strawberry. A brown named chocolate. A darker brown named chocolate chocolate chip. A light green named pistachio. And a gold named Haagen-Dazs, to match their label

Any girl that does not already know about Agent Provocateur, please prepare your bank accounts now.

In my post umber 25, I talked about how it is an everyday luxury for me to wear nice underwear and feel like a millions bucks, no matter what other clothes I am wearing.

I think that HD could capitalize on this idea by getting together with a company like Agent Provocateur, which makes very expensive, luxury lingerie, and make an everyday luxury lingerie. This way, the average person could feel amazing and luxurious, without breaking the bank.

The lingerie company would obviously be the one creating the slightly less fabulous luxury underwear, while HD just added their name and brand image of everyday luxury to the advertising. I think that a great ad for this would be a woman wearing the discounted luxury lingerie, while sitting alone in bed eating ice cream. I think that a lot of women would actually identify a lot with this. I know that when I have a hard day, I like to wear my fanciest underwear and red lipstick and just sit in bed with a whole pizza and eat the entire thing by myself. Like a true woman.

For this post originally, I collaborated with one of my co-workers to make a bracket of ice cream flavors. We discussed each flavor as it came up and which one we thought was better, richer, more decadent.  Chocolate chocolate chip won!

For this post, I thought about how HD could make an event out of it. For many watching sports and creating brackets is a luxury because it takes them out of their day to day life. It lets them step out of work and life and step into the world of sports and the pageantry that surrounds them.

HD could take on this world that is a luxury for some, by opening it to people like me that could not give two figs about sports. They could hold an open competition, allowing people to make online brackets for their ice cream. They could then let people vote. As the weeks go on, flavors would win their brackets based on the votes. Then the losers would be taken out of the voting.  After a certain number of weeks, an ice cream winner would be picked. Whoever had the bracket that was closest to the winning bracket would win a luxury present. I propose that their prize would be a year’s supply of HD ice cream to enjoy whenever they needed a luxury treat and a weekend at a spa to really enjoy their luxury.

This event would be a good way for HD to gain publicity, while still maintaining their luxury identity.

To continue on my ongoing improvement on my own posts, I considered my post number 26 about pet ice creams. I thought about that post this morning when my cat was determined to steal my water cup, my cereal bowl and my cup of tea. She wanted me to share so badly. Or, she wanted my food only, the little stinker.

I think that to improve on my pet ice cream, that there should be a pet ice cream made for both humans and pets to share. It would use a few of the same flavors, like peanut butter and sweetened milk, but not the weird ones that humans would not like, like cheddar cheese. The ice cream would still be completely pet friendly, but also delicious for humans. The owner could choose whether or not to share out the container with their furry friends, but it would be suggested to eat out of different containers. Those who really love their pets though, and don’t mind the spit, could do whatever they want.

This would be a luxury for the person because they get to share something with their pet, but also now because they get to spend some time with their pets. Cat owners will know this well. My cat greets me at the door and then goes to sit in my roommates room because she likes his bed more than mine. If I had a bowl full of delicious treats for her though, we could share and I could spend sometime enjoying her company. (Cats are jerks, but I love them)

Don't lie, you love cat photos.

My post number 3 was about ice cream trucks made for adults. This way adults could still have the luxury that kids do of having ice cream driven right by their house, but with more adult flavors.

My post number 9 was about HD making kid friendly ice cream flavors, including apple slices and PB+J. I considered this to be an ice cream for the richer kids, since it would still have the simple and high quality ingredients that HD prides itself on.

I think that combining these two ideas would be a great new venture for HD. Ice cream trucks that carry high quality children’s ice cream! This would still not be the food truck for middle or low income families, but for those picky parents that only want their children to have the very best of everything, with this their kids could still get a taste of the joy that is hearing the ice cream truck roll by with that annoying song and running out to chase it down.

With my post number 9, I proposed ice cream flavors for the pint containers, but this idea would require flavors for bars. I think that my Apple Slice flavor would be good for an ice cream bar covered in chunky peanut butter. This would still be healthy and high quality for the parents, and the kids would still see it as a special treat for those hot summer days. My PB+J ice cream could be a bar covered in white chocolate, which is a bit more decadent for kids, but still not the milk chocolate, unhealthy mess. I’m not insisting that white chocolate is any healthier, but at least with this, any drips of melted white chocolate would not ruin the kids clothes, which likely would cost more than my monthly rent.

These ice cream bars would cost more than the ice cream bars from trucks that we enjoyed as kids, but the again, I’m sure many of us did not grow up in the lap of eating luxury ice cream after dinner. At least I’m from a Party Pail ice cream kind of family.
